Frank Szathmáry-Filipitsch
Principal trombonist in the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart
Frank Szathmary-Filipitsch has been deputy principal trombonist in the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart since 2004, under its current music director Teodor Currentzis. Before that, he was alternate trombonist of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Ludwigshafen for nine years.
He studied with Prof. Paul Schreckenberger and Prof. Abbie Conant in Mannheim and Trossingen. A scholarship enabled him to study for two years at the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he was taught by Eric Crees, John Kenny and Peter Gane.

As a sought-after and successful teacher, he is and has been active for many years at the music academies in Mannheim, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Düsseldorf and Saarbrücken.
In addition, Frank Szathmary-Filipitsch has been a member of the Richard Wagner Festival Orchestra in Bayreuth for 25 years, where he regularly works with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Kiril Petrenko, Axel Kober and Andris Nelsons, among others.
