Vita

Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1953, he brings together the various schools and traditions. Among his teachers were Professor Gisela Sott from the immediate Liszt tradition but also in the Beethoven playing of the Edwin Fischer tradition as well as Professor Leonard Hokanson, who studied with Arthur Schnabel. He also had intensive experience with Rosa Sabater (Alicia de la Rocha) and Rudolf Firkusny (Janacek student).

At the age of 19, Wolfgang Wagenhäuser became probably the youngest university lecturer in Germany due to his competition successes. He led a main subject class piano for three years in Fulda, then at the age of 22 he was appointed to the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main. At the age of 34 he changed to a piano professorship in Trossingen.

Over the decades, many winners of national and international competitions have emerged from his class. Several times, students were part of the national selection of young artists. Former students now teach at colleges and universities around the globe. He himself is a multiple first prize winner of various national and international competitions (including Paris & Florence). He has also received Mozart and Beethoven prizes for particularly authentic interpretations.

Concerts also began early: his first performance at the age of five. Already in his youth he regularly gave up to 80 concerts a year. He travelled almost all over the world and only at the age of 35 did he drastically reduce this activity, much to the regret of his management, so that he could better devote himself to his students and his research and compositions.

He is invited to give countless master classes and lectures - repeatedly at the Moscow Conservatory and in the greater Asian region. In Germany, he is in charge of courses for prizewinners of Jugend musiziert at federal and state level over a longer period of time. Since 2003 he has again been accepting more concert invitations, but he selects carefully.

Wolfgang Wagenhäuser's repertoire has no focal points. The press confirms time and again that he is at home in all styles. More than 50 recordings for CD as well as live recordings of concerts for radio and television at festivals in recent years (including Moscow and Riva del Garda) confirm his outstanding ability.
