- Certain reference holdings such as reference works, standard works, complete and monument editions cannot be borrowed.
- Audio media can only be used in the library.
- The loan period is usually 4 weeks, a larger part of the reference holdings can be borrowed for one week.
- The loan period is also valid during the semester breaks and holidays!
- For "normal loans," you can extend the period online up to two times, as long as another user has not requested the material; "short term loans" and special loans can not be extended online. Further extensions are only possible in the library by presented the borrowed title and the user ID card.
- Please note, that paying a late fee does not mean an automatic extension!
- A return container is available in front of the library for returning borrowed books/sheet music outside of opening hours. DVDs and other sensitive materials may not be thrown in there and must be returned to the lending desk during opening hours.

Please inform the library immediately of any changes to your postal address or email address. The reminders about the expiry of the loan period and the notifications about the 1st reminder are sent by email and starting from the 2nd reminder, the notifications are sent by post.
The reminders are also valid if you do not receive the notifications because of an incorrect postal address, incorrect e-mail address or an overcrowded email inbox.
The "Purchase request" link in the OPAC takes you to a form in which you can enter your purchase request and send it to the library. In this way, the copy is already reserved for you, provided that the request can be fulfilled.
The holdings of the library are arranged systematically (see Systematics) and are mostly freely accessible. Audio material, audiovisual media, and data storage carriers are not freely accessible. Please make a note of the corresponding call number(s) from the OPAC entry and contact the staff at the circulation desk. Parts of the holdings are in storage and must be pre-ordered (see Storage).
Most books and sheet music can be borrowed. Audio material, magazines and special collections (system locations K, R, W) can only be used in the library rooms. The reference holdings also include reference works and individual books and sheet music. These non-lendable copies are marked with a red dot above the signature plate. Borrowing is only possible upon presentation of a university ID card.
For students: matriculation number (sXXXXXXXXX)
For teachers / employees of the University: card number of the chip carde
For external users: name abbreviation on the library IDs (z. B. 9MUSTM). When registering in the OPAC, the letters must be capitalized!
You can log into the online catalog (OPAC)with your ID number and password by clicking on "Mein Konto" (My Account). You can see your loans, requests, fees, and due dates for your materials and you can also extend it.
Choir music (call number S 100 ...) must be borrowed from the library. The sheet music currently required for lessons and performances is usually available for loan in the library at the counter (while copies are still available). These are generally given out as "special loan" for the length of the specfic need, which means they cannot be extended online (see Extensions). Other choral sheet music can be ordered at the lending desk. Borrowed choral music may not be returned to the choir cabinet, but must be handed in at the library to relieve the user account. It is important to ensure that you return the exact item that you borrowed yourself and for which you are responsible.
A copy from the choral sheet music collection is available for inspection in the library. These copies are part of the reference stock and cannot be borrowed.

- 2nd fee €5.00 1 week after the first
- 3rd fee €10.00 1 week after the second
Please note:
- The fees add up.
- Payment of the fees does not indicate an automatic extension of the material.
- The fees are still valid even if the notification did not reach you, for example because of an incorrect/outdated postal address or email address or an overcrowded email inbox.
The library has a micro scanner. Microfilms and microfiches can be viewed and scanned here.
In our storage, there are currently
- Various older books and sheet music
- Vinyl records (signature ends with ".SP")
- Orchestral material (call number groups S 10 - S 80)
- Older years of newspapers and magazines
- Choir library (call numbers S 100 ..., see also Choral Music).
You can order parts of the magazine holdings via the OPAC by clicking on the "Order" button in the overall information for the item, logging in, and confirming the order. Periodicals and choral music cannot be ordered through the OPAC. Please have the desired periodical volume or the call number entered into the order list at the circulation desk. Storage orders are usually available at the circulation desk on the morning of the next opening day and are available for a week.
N - R
(N-R is based on the German words. This is merely an English translation of the German page. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please select another page)
You can find materials that were acquired in the last three months in the online catalog (OPAC) under "Neuerwerbungslisten" (New Acquisitions), sorted by type:
- Books
- Media (Audio/Video)
- Sheet Music
OPAC is the online catalog of the University Library. Here you can research the holdings and manage your user account.
Orchestral materials (Call numbers S 10 - S 80) are located in storage. You can order the material (but not the call numbers ending in .Pt, these are scores that are part of the material) directly from the OPAC hit by clicking the "Order" button, logging in and confirming the order. The material is normally available at the circulation desk from the morning of the next business day for one week.
The password is set by default as your birthday in this format: DDMMYYYY (without periods). Please replace the default password with your own secure one. Should you forget your own password, please talk to a library employee and then will reset the password back to the default setting for you.
Records, journals, and special collections (system locations K, R, W) can only be used in the library rooms. The reference holdings also include reference works and individual books and sheet music. These non-rentable copies are marked with a red dot above the call number sticker.
You can return materials outside of the opening hours by using the return box next to the library entrance.
- Exceptions: DVDs, orchestral materials, and sensitive copies must be handed over directly to the circulation desk!
S - T
(S-T is based on the German words. This is merely an English translation of the German page. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please select another page)
Next to the library entrance, there are lockers with coin deposit. Please lock your bags there before entering the library. No liability is assumed for valuables.
The library is typically closed every August for four weeks. The dates will be announced on the notice board and under opening hours. The due dates of items whose return dates would fall during the closing time are automatically extended until the next open day.
Course reserves are located on a shelf in the group work room. Here befinden sich in einem Regal im Gruppenarbeitsraum. Here you will also find the reference works of call number group A.
In certain cases, media is booked as a special loan when they are loaned for a longer period of time than the usual loan period, for example, choral music that is required for a performance. Please note that special loans cannot be renewed online.
Before borrowing, please make sure that the material (parts, attachments) is complete. Once you have borrowed the material, you are responsible for its completeness and must replace any missing material.
The holdings of the library are arranged systematically. Looking up your desired item in the system is recommended instead of "going to the shelf," since the OPAC also shows media from a system location that are on loan or are in the stacks, as well as media for which the system location is only assigned as an extension, but which also belong thematically to this system location.
Bags are not allowed to be taken into the library. Please lock your bags in one of the coin-operated lockers by the library entrance before entering. The library is not liable for any valuables.
Audio and visual media are not freely accessible. Please consult the OPAC, make a note of the call number, and contact the staff at the circulation desk. Records may only be used in the library and we have playback devices available. DVDs can be borrowed for one week and cannot be renewed online (short term loan). DVDs may not be thrown into the return cupboard, but must be handed in directly at the lending desk during opening hours.
U - Z
(U-Z is based on the German words. This is merely an English translation of the German page. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please select another page)
Normal loans are renewable up to two times - beginning one week before the due date - via OPAC, but only when the item is not requested by another user.
- To renew your items, log into OPAC (Recherche / Mein Konto - Search / My Account) with your ID number and password. Under "Show loans or renew" you can click the button "Renew all" or select the desired items and click the button "renew the selected items." Make sure to check the date under "Fällig am" (due on) to see if your renewal request was successful!
- Short-term loans (# before the call number) and special loans are not renewable online.
- At the lending desk in the library, media are generally returned and borrowed again (unless pre-ordered). So bring the appropriate media and your library card with you to renew. After that, normal loans (that are not already requested) can be renewed online up to two times.
- It is not possible to renew items over the phone.
Please report any lost material immediately. Loss or damage to library property obliges the user to obtain a replacement. If this isn't done by the user themelves, the library has to charge a processing fee of €20 in addition to the purchase price.
During semester breaks, the usual due dates do not apply! Please remember to renew your materials on time or return them. Only times when the library is closed are counted toward the loan periods, see Closing times.
Items that are already borrowed can be reserved online on OPAC by using the "Bestellen" (Order) button. As soon as the requested material has been returned, you will receive a message via email and in your user account. Requested material is available for one week at the circulation desk.
Journals cannot be lended out. Older journal copies are in storage and can be ordered for pick up on the following business day at the circulation desk. Journal issues that have been received since January 1st, 2012 are listed in the OPAC.
