Vita

Born in Bytom (Poland), Michael Kanczyk received his first piano lessons at the age of 6. After graduating with distinction from the State Music High School in Bytom, he studied piano with Eugeniusz Knapik at the Academy of Music in Katowice from 1981 to 1986, where he received his artistic diploma. He then worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Art Education at the Pedagogical University in Czestochowa and at the Music High School in Gliwice.

Michael Kanczyk completed his pianistic education with Boris Lvov at the Academy of Music in Trossingen and at various master classes with Rudolf Buchbinder, Homero Francesch and Bernard Ringeissen, among others.

In 1991, Kanczyk took up his work at the Donaueschingen School of Music as head of the department for keyboard instruments. Since 2002, he has held a teaching position for piano methodology at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen.

In addition to his pedagogical activities, he has made a name for himself as a soloist and regularly gives concerts in Poland, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. His repertoire includes works from all epochs, from Domenico Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach to Igor Stravinsky and Olivier Messiaen.
