Vita

The soprano Mechthild Bach studied singing with Prof. Elsa Cavelti at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt. Further studies led her to Prof. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Prof. Laura Sarti and Prof. Vera Rosza. From 1986 she was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. Opera engagements took Mechthild Bach to various German theatres (including Heidelberg, Darmstadt, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg, Hamburg Nationaltheater Munich), where she worked on a broad repertoire as a lyrical soprano.

As a concert singer, she regularly collaborates with renowned artists and ensembles throughout Europe, including R. Goebel, M. Schneider, F. Bernius, U. Gronostay, M. Creed, P. Neumann, M. Honeck, S. Kujken, T. Koopman, H. Rilling, K. Junghänel, R. Otto and many others. She has performed at the Dresdner Musiktage as well as the Herbstliche Musiktage in Bad Urach, the Stuttgart Bach Academy, the Weilburger Schloßkonzerte, the Philharmonie in Berlin and Cologne, the Schauspieljaus in Berlin, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and other important music centres throughout Europe.

Numerous radio and CD recordings document the singer's artistic work. The recording of Zelenka's Missa Dei Patris, in which Mechthild Bach was a soloist, was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize in 2002. In 2006 she took part in the production of Handel's "Admeto, re di Tessaglia" in the role of Antigona at the Handel Festival Halle. This summer she sang the soprano part in Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony at the Mahler Festival in Toblach. In October 2007 Mechthild Bach sang the part of "Alice Ford" in Verdi's "Falstaff" in Lucerne.
