Gerhard Wolf studied trombone in Munich (Ernst Giehl/ Abbie Conant), Vienna (Hans Ströcker) and Chicago (Charles Vernon/ Arnold Jacobs). In 1986 he was co-founder of the brass sextet "Ensemble Classique", which became famous at the latest since its debut at the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival in 1989 and is now represented at all major music festivals. 

Since 1988 Gerhard Wolf has organised the "International Trombone Camp" in Bad Wörishofen together with Prof. Abbie Conant (Trossingen University of Music). This camp has made a special name for itself at home and abroad. Guest lecturers have included Charles Vernon (Chicago Symphony), Carsten Svanberg (KU Graz) and Joe Alessi (New York Philharmonic). 

In 1994 Gerhard Wolf became artistic director of the city of Bad Wörishofen. In this capacity he was responsible, among other things, for the organisation of the "Ivo Pogorelich Festival". Participating artists included Cecila Bartoli, Loriot, the Scharoun Ensemble, Maurice Andre and Mischa Maisky. Since 1991, Gerhard Wolf has realised the Bad Wörishofer Festival "Jazz Goes to Kur" in cooperation with the current leader of the BBC Big Band, Prof. Jiggs Whigham. Many other renowned cultural events have also been organised with the participation of Gerhard Wolf. Since 2000, for example, the special workshops for children as part of the "Festival of Nations". In 2006 Gerhard Wolf published "Pustus learns trombone" at Polymnia Press, a methodically innovative trombone school for early music. 

Until October 2007 Gerhard Wolf was director of the music school in Bad Wörishofen and lecturer for trombone methodology at the Musikhochschule Trossingen. Since November 2007 he has been professor at the Trossingen University of Music and Head of the Villingen-Schwenningen Music Academy.
