Prof Detmar Kurig

Vita

Studied music in Frankfurt, Berlin and Arnhem and was a master student of Ludwig Streicher and Gary Karr.

Already during his studies Detmar Kurig taught at the University of Music Detmold in Dortmund and at the University of Music Cologne in Aachen where he was appointed professor in 2003. From 2007-2015 he was also professor at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf.

Besides his teaching activities, Mr. Kurig has worked with numerous orchestras, such as the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera, was principal bass of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra for 5 years and has been a member of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg since 2003. He began his solo career in 2000, since then he has given more than 100 concerts with the pianist Tomone Yazaki, including 8 concert tours to Japan and 4 joint CDs. He has repeatedly been invited as a soloist with orchestra, for example by the Rheinisches Kammerorchester, the Dortmunder Kammerorchester and the Bochumer Symphoniker.
