Prof. Boris Kucharsky

Violin

Vita

"He is an admirable violinist, a sensitive musician and a deeply touching listener, with an infallible taste and deep sensitivity. - This is the verdict of Yehudi Menuhin on one of his most talented students, Boris Kucharsky.

Born in Dortmund in 1971, Boris Kucharsky is of Russian, Slovakian, German and Jewish descent. He received his first violin lessons at the age of 7 and was admitted to the Menuhin School near London in 1984 as a pupil of Margaret Norris. Further studies led him to Cologne to Igor Ozim as well as to Erick Friedmann at Yale University.

During his time in London, Menuhin personally took care of the education of his talented student. Under Menuhin's direction, Kucharsky made his German debut with Beethoven's Violin Concerto - the performance that laid the foundation for Kucharsky's reputation as one of the most interesting violinists of his generation.

His extensive repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the present day; several contemporary composers have written works for him. His recording of Eugen Sukhon's works for violin concerto "Fantasia and Burlesque", which was also dedicated to him, was voted "best classical recording of 1999" by Slovak Radio.

As a soloist he has performed with orchestras such as the European Chamber Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Schwerin, the Suk Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Academy Neuss and the Prague Chamber Orchestra. He has given violin recitals at several renowned festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein, Gstaad, Lichfield, Dvořák and BHS (Slovakia).

A busy concert schedule throughout Europe is interrupted by frequent trips to the USA (where his New York début was a triumphant success in 2008) and the Far East, where he is a much sought-after guest both in the concert hall and the recording studio.

From 2008-2013 he was professor at Montclair State University and from 2012-2013 professor at Rutgers University, both in New Jersey, USA.

In September 2013 he was appointed to London to the Yehudi Menuhin School and Guildhall School for Music and Drama.

Since 2019 Boris Kucharsky is professor at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen.

He plays the "Baron Knoop", a violin by Carlo Bergonzi, Cremona 1735. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
