Born in 1962, he first studied organ and organ improvisation with Lionel Rogg in Geneva (Soloist Diploma "Prix de Virtuositè") and with Ewald Kooiman in Amsterdam. He also studied "Historical Performance Practice" with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

 Pölten, Bremen, Freiburg, Bamberg, Münster, Berlin, Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, Dublin, Thomaskirche and Gewandhaus Leipzig, Schauspielhaus Berlin, broadcasting hall of WDR Cologne, Philharmonie St. Petersburg, Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg, as well as to important music centres in the USA and Canada.

His remarkable discography today comprises more than 30 CD recordings, including major organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach or the complete organ works of Franz Liszt, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Camille Saint-Saëns.

He regularly holds guest courses for organ interpretation and improvisation at various music academies and universities in Germany and abroad.

Since 1991 he has been the director of the South German Organ Academy for historical performance practice on the great baroque organs in Baden-Württemberg.

After his first teaching position at the Leipzig Academy of Music, he was professor for organ at the Zurich University of the Arts and organist at the Winterthur City Church from 2001 - 2009. In 2009, he took over the professorship for organ playing at the Trossingen State Academy of Music. In 2011 he was awarded the German music prize Echo - Klassik in the category "Best concert recording organ of the year".
