Stefan Bornscheuer studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Prof. Gorjan Kosuta and the members of the Amadeus Quartet. After his artistic graduation he continued his postgraduate studies with Prof. Primoz Novsak at the Music Academy in Basel (CH).

He also attended master classes with Viktor Pikaizen, Zakhar Bron and Dimitri Sitkovetsky. Since 1991 Stefan Bornscheuer has been violinist in the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR. In 1996 he founded the ARTIS PIANO QUARTET together with the Japanese pianist Hiroko Atsumi, the American violist Paul Pesthy and the cellist Marin Smesnoi from the Republic of Moldova. He has given international concerts and recorded numerous works for the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in productions and live recordings. The ARTIS PIANO QUARTET released its second CD in 2007. 

Since 2004 Stefan Bornscheuer has also been a lecturer at the State Academy of Music in Trossingen. Stefan Bornscheuer taught chamber music courses at the "Schwetzinger Festspiele" in 2009 (together with Dirk Altmann and Jose Gallardo) and in 2011 (together with Dirk Altmann and Matthias Kirschnereit).
