Vita

Peter Beyer was born in Bremen in 1963. He studied from 1982 to 1991 at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart in the main subjects piano (with Prof. Lieselotte Gierth and Prof. Gerd Lohmeyer), music theory (with Prof. Heinrich Deppert) and composition (with Prof. Helmut Lachenmann). After his studies he continued his intensive work as a pianist and composer, performing at home and abroad and participating in radio and television recordings. He received, among others, the Südwestfunk Prize for Young Performers, the scholarship of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and the Stuttgart Composition Prize.

His compositional development initially led Peter Beyer to explore forms of statistical compositional technique. From there, he attempted to realise an aesthetics of blurriness in his more recent works. In addition to piano works (including the four-part cycle "Schleichwege"), Beyer also wrote compositions for various chamber music ensembles (e.g. "Enthüllung" for four guitars) and works for choir or choir and orchestra ("Ein Bußgebet in Todesnot"). He also wrote an extensive publication on Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Gruppen für drei Orchester".

Peter Beyer has taught at the Trossingen State Academy of Music since 1986 and has been a full-time lecturer for music theory and aural training there since 1996.
