Prof. Norbert Schnell

Norbert Schnell is Professor of Music Design at the Faculty of Digital Media at Furtwangen University. He studied at the University of Art and Design Graz and the Graz University of Technology before becoming a researcher and developer in the field of interactive sound processing and interaction design at the IRCAM research center in Paris. He received his PhD in 2014 on the design of interactive media with recorded sounds. He organized the 6th International Conference New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) in 2006, founded the Web Audio Conference (WAC) in 2015 and has been organizing various local festivals for experimental music and media art with his students since 2019. In his teaching and research activities at Furtwangen University and Trossingen University of Music, he focuses on the design and development of sound- and music-related interactive and immersive media in the context of artistic forms of expression as well as various areas of application such as health, music education and pedagogy.
