Christian Fischer has conducted choirs in Karlsruhe and Hanover, where he was artistic director of the municipal oratorio choir from 1998 to 2005, and also served as provisional choir director at the Leipzig Gewandhaus in 1996-98. He has performed with his choirs at various festivals such as MDR-Musiksommer, Bachfest Leipzig, Festwochen Herrenhausen (Hannover), Sächsisch-Böhmisches Musikfestival and others.

In recent years, his artistic work has focused on Central German Baroque music and Scandinavian choral music as well as vocal improvisation and jazz/pop choral work. Christian Fischer is the founder of the Leipzig improvisation festival "LivFe!", a much sought-after guest lecturer for choral conducting and choral improvisation, a regular juror at competitions and, in recent years, has also been active as an initiator and organiser of congresses and smaller festivals.
