The pianist Barbara Baun is passionate about song interpretation and is a sought-after partner of renowned singers such as Sibylla Rubens, Ruth Ziesak, Holger Falk, Christoph Prégardien and Roman Trekel.
Engagements as a Lied pianist have taken her to the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Goethe-Institut Singapore, the Nationaltheater Mannheim and many others. She has performed at festivals such as ‘Composers of the 20th Century’ (Amsterdam), ‘Wolfgang Rihm Festival’ (Antwerp) and ‘RheinVokal’ and works with the Anton Webern Choir and the Phorminx Ensemble. A talk concert in the Radio France studio in Paris with songs by F. Schubert and W. Rihm will be broadcast live. Further concerts are recorded by NDR, HR, SWR and DLF Kultur. Her solo CD ‘Der Traum von Paris’ with sonatas by W. A. Mozart is released in 2012.
Barbara Baun has led the lied class at the Mannheim University of Music for five years, is a guest lecturer at the Karlsruhe University of Music for two semesters Karlsruhe and gives masterclasses together with Julie Kaufmann, Sibylla Rubens, Olaf Bär and Christoph Prégardien. She is a judge at the Josephine Lang Competition for Lied duos. In 2007, Barbara Baun founded the Kirchheimer Liedersommer song festival. In 2016, she conceived the Lied Workshop, a collaboration between a song class, composition class, grammar school and her festival. The creation and results are regularly accompanied by DLF Kultur and SWR2.
Barbara Baun completed her studies in Frankfurt/Main with Joachim Volkmann, Hartmut Höll and Rainer Hoffmann as well as three years in the masterclasses of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin. She has been a lecturer in vocal coaching at the Mannheim University of Music since 1989.
From the winter semester 2025/26, Barbara Baun will take over the professorship for piano lied interpretation at the State University of Music Trossingen.
