The ‘Music Research’ profile expands and deepens fundamental musicological and music education skills, some of which are taught in the ‘Horizon’ programme. Theoretical approaches and methodological approaches are used to make various musical concepts and terms tangible, thus initiating a well-founded reflection on the diversity of music as a cultural phenomenon. The profile is characterised by:
- A broad spectrum of topics
- Historical, sociological, psychological, aesthetic and educational perspectives
- Diverse methods of music research
- Research-oriented projects
The ‘Music Research’ profile teaches the principles of scientific engagement with artistic and educational processes and products. The aim is to provide a methodical and systematic description and reflection on music and music-making in their various contexts and experiential contexts, such as understanding, listening to, making, learning and teaching music from different eras, genres and styles. This includes
- Humanities and social science aspects
- Approaches such as cultural history and sociological knowledge,
- Insights into learning psychology
- Performance and interpretation research
- Source studies
- Empirical research methods.
The ‘Music Research’ profile is particularly exciting if you are interested in academic reflection on the diverse contexts of music and music performance. No special requirements are necessary. What is expected is a willingness to actively engage with topics, theories and discourses in music research across its broad spectrum. In this way, the principles of academic work and thinking can be continuously expanded and practised.
For content-related reasons, this profile is particularly recommended in combination with the education-oriented degree programmes in Secondary School Music Education (BA and MA) and Music Pedagogy (BA and MA). In principle, however, the profile can be combined with all core artistic areas offered at the HfM Trossingen.
