In the Instrumental/Vocal Pedagogy programme, you will learn how to professionally convey your enthusiasm for your instrument, your voice and the multifaceted forms of musical expression to others.
In the first and second modules, the fundamentals for a diverse methodological repertoire and for forms of communication and feedback are developed in subject didactics. We combine theoretical discussion of specialist literature on instrumental/vocal pedagogy with practical teaching exercises in a variety of teaching/learning settings. Planning and designing student-oriented teaching processes with learners from different target groups in practice will help you to develop fundamental practical skills – this is where you will build up your repertoire of methods.
In Module 3, your instrumental/vocal teaching skills will be expanded through in-depth study of specialist literature and continued teaching experience in the classroom. Through joint reflection in the teaching/learning group on successful interventions or overcoming difficulties, your understanding of individual teaching in the context of music will be developed. In Music and Health, you will learn about the psychological and physiological aspects of teaching and learning and how to apply them in teaching and practice processes.
During a music school internship, you will experience the lively everyday life of a music school by observing different departments. Your own experiences will be shared within the group and reflected upon together.
- This programme prepares you for a career in arts education at music schools or in other music education contexts.
- Through intensive teaching experience, you will acquire a rich repertoire of methods in supervised teaching and learning settings (individual and group lessons), giving you the flexibility to design teaching processes individually with imagination and professional competence, thereby conveying joy and motivation for making music to your students.
- ‘People learn by teaching.’ (Seneca) By structuring and teaching practice processes in class, you will learn to reflect on your own practice and develop it constructively.
- The study of specialist literature, the critical examination of teaching materials, a diverse repertoire of didactic concepts, feedback and communication forms enable you to take a responsible and self-reflective approach to the complex tasks of instrumental/vocal teaching.
