Information at a glance

The ensemble conducting profile can be chosen with different specialisations:

  • choir conducting &
  • orchestra conducting

Choir conducting: The choir conducting profile broadens and deepens fundamental skills in rehearsal and conducting techniques. The knowledge gained is always applied and practised in rehearsals and performances.

Choral music exists in our Western music in a wide variety of forms and styles: from its earliest beginnings to the avant-garde, from a cappella works to choral symphonies and opera. Students engage with a wide variety of works, gaining insights into the characteristics of the respective eras and styles.

The ensemble conducting profile will provide you with the necessary tools:

  • rehearsal technique
  • conducting technique
  • conducting various ensembles – from amateur choirs to professional ensembles
  • repertoire development

If you have already acquired basic skills in ensemble conducting, then you've come to the right place. You can find introductory courses in the relevant university programmes in ‘Horizont’ or through choir conductor training courses offered by churches, the Schwäbischer Sängerbund (Swabian Singers' Association) or courses at the Federal Academy (Bundesakademie).

The profile is particularly recommended for students studying to become secondary school teachers and vocal students, but is open to all degree programmes.

  • Scope: 4 semesters
  • Start of programme: as primary or secondary profile
  • Modules:
    • ensemble conducting in the main subject
