What's next:

  • End of February or end of September: Information about the days on which the entrance exam takes place can be found online under Dates and deadlines
  • In April/May or November/December: Documents are formally checked. You will find the results of the review in the applicant portal. Please log in regularly and send missing documents as soon as possible.
  • End of April/beginning of May or beginning of December: Notification of admission to the entrance exam (invitation) or rejection (if digital 1st phase necessary and not passed)
  • Beginning of March or beginning of October: Information on the dates and times of the entrance exam is available online under Dates and deadlines
  • Mid-December to mid-January or mid-May to mid-June: The entrance examinations take place in Trossingen at the times and dates announced.

In-person entrance examination in Trossingen

Please note the information in the invitation to the entrance examination!

  • The invitation is valid according to your application for the artistic specialisation and degree programme selected there.
  • The times and dates of the entrance examinations can be found on the Dates and deadlines website.
  • Please note: The entrance examinations for Bachelor's and Master's degrees, concert exam and teaching degree programmes take place on different days and times. 
  • If you have not already done so, please submit your music scores by email at least two weeks before your entrance exam.
  • Please arrive approx. 1 hour before the examination date and register at the front desk ("Zentrale" at the main entrance). Rehearsal rooms for on-site preparation are reserved.
  • Applicants for Bachelor's degree programmes without a university entrance qualification (without in Germany accepted “Hochschulzugangsberechtigung/Abitur) take part in the entrance examination (=”Begabtenprüfung", written and oral examinations in German). The written examinations start in the morning and the oral examinations in the afternoon (exact time under Dates and deadlines).
  • Compulsory subject examinations (piano) in Bachelor's degree programmes are also examined as part of the examination for the artistic specialisation.
  • In the Bachelor's degree programmes in Music, Early Music and Music and Movement, the examinations in music theory and aural training only take place for new students at the beginning of your first term. The examination serves as a placement test. It is possible to start the programme regardless of the result of this examination. Nevertheless, thorough preparation is highly recommended!
  • If you are unable to take part in the entrance exam, please send a cancellation by e-mail to the e-mail address given in the invitation and withdraw your application in the applicant portal. Only then is the cancellation complete!

Prescreening unfortunately not passed:

The applicant portal will contain the rejection letter. Further participation in the application process is unfortunately not possible. However, the university will always be pleased to receive a new application in any future semester!*

Communication with the Examination Administration

Communication with the examination administration takes place exclusively via the applicant portal. Please log in regularly and consistently check if new messages are available.

To send in subsequent documents as well as any questions, please only use the following email address: studentsoffice(at)mh-trossingen.de

Rest assured that any questions about your application will be answered via this email address. However, please refrain from asking questions about your application status for the first four weeks after the deadline. This way, we can examine all incoming applications much more quickly. Have you already applied here before?

* If you want to apply to our university again, you have to register, turn in your online application, and send the necessary documents by post again. For data protection and privacy reasons, we have to delete and discard your submitted documents after the conclusion of the application process.
